Has anyone had experience using the "do-it-yourself" kits to form their LLC? I was looking over the documentation of my sec of state web site (TEXAS). It seems really simple. Why would I want to use a service to establish my company? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated?

Number one, why do you want to establish an LLC?

Number two, you don`t need the services of a separate company to set up and LLC.  But, you might want to sit down with an attorney to make sure you are going in the right direction.

As far as t he actual paperwork, a paralegal could draft the actual paperwork and walk you through filling out the forms.  I`ve used t he service of a paralegal on several occasions.  They are much cheaper than an attorney when it comes to doing the actual forms.

Thanks for the reply.

First, my type of business would necessitate the protections of the LLC (I am a commercial flooring contractor who hires subs to do the actual installs).

Second,

The paralegal idea sounds intriguing. I guess I have always been a do-it-yourselfer and hate paying for simple stuff! If I know it is beyond my capabilities I will gladly hire it out, though.

Thanks,

J

I set up my own LLC in California simply by following the directions provided by the Secretary Of State. What I found was...it was simple! No problem whatsoever. You`ll need an agreement between you and any partners you may have in writing. They will ask for it. Other than that, pay the fees and wait it out. It`s a piece of cake. In 11 years since forming my LLC, I have never had an issue related to doing it myself.

I did the same in TX off of the state`s website. Cost $200 and took less than an hour.
