Folks -

SmartRaccooon has it right. You don`t just sit down and say "OK, I am going to find the best Work at Home opportunity" and then get rich.

You need to evaluate what you are good it...what you like to do...what the market needs...what opportunities are out there and how can you capitalize on it.

If you are looking for someone here to guide you to the `best` home business, let me make this suggestion: Go to your local libary, and look for a book called "Best Work at Home Opportunities". I may be butchering the title, but they publish one every couple of years so that the information is relevant to current technology.

Find the book, go thru it page by page, and determine which opportunities interest you and meet your skills set.

That`s at least a good start...

Look at the question differently: "I`m 24 and I want to date someone. What`s the best type of person for me to date?"

A business isn`t a "thing" you do, it`s a life concept. You`ll have a 24/7 relationship with your business, and your life will be entirely intertwined with all the aspects of that business.

Stephen,

This is a simple question in my opinion. If you are going to start and business and be a success at it.. you have to really enjoy what you do. It has to be something that not only drives you to work hard on it everyday but something that keeps you curious to learn more everyday. Never do something based on money or because it seems easy. I hope that helps!

Hello, what Stonesledge said makes sense. I guess it can be difficult for some people to choose a business because they have too many ideas running in their head. I love all kinds of creative arts and I can`t decide which business idea would be better for me. Maybe I should try them all, one by one???

What do you like to do better yet what is it that you have a `passion` for once you find that something answer this this question...would I do `blank` if I was not getting paid or making money. If you can honestly answer that question with a YES than you should make a decision from there if on the other hand you answer no you have may have to do more research.

good luck

Before you "try them all, one by one" take 1 extra step.

For each of your ideas, brainstorm a little. Try to flesh the idea out a bit.
Then, look at each project you created and create the most basic of business plans, including a P&L.
See if you have a money making opportunity here. Sure, few comapnies are profitable from day 1...but you want to go into it knowing you at least have a CHANCE.

The definition of "home based business" has changed over the years.  It used to be that you could only do things that were laid out in front of you--positions created by another company.  But with the world of open innovation (web sites, blogs, social networking, etc.), you no longer have to find a home based business...you can create one yourself.

Like many posters have said, however, the key is doing something you love.  Eventually any type of work will become work, but if you love it and are passionate about it, you`ll enjoy what you`re doing regardless.

I recently helped write a book in which we interviewed several people making money doing what they love.  One of the things we discovered is that the "thing" is rarely just one skill or interest, but more often a combination of things.  Here are a couple of examples:

- www.bellaknitting.com - Laura Cunitz had a marketing background but wanted to create knitting projects so people could get everything needed to knit something in one stop.  Her business background fueled her success in following a passion for and interest in knitting.

- www.snowboardsecrets.com - Lauren Teton had good writing skills.  At 40, she wanted to learn how to snowboard but didn`t want to get hurt in the process.  When she found no resources around for "mature" snowboarders, she decided to write an article about it.  Writing that article turned into the desire to create a web site for others like her to share their tips and adventures.

- www.ohbrooke.net - Brooke Hall recently graduated from college as a graphic artist.  She is a "case study" featured in the book because she`s still trying to figure it out.  She has some wonderful design skills and is interested in helping people decorate their homes inexpensively.  After going through the personal inventory in the book, Brooke found that she had a great deal of experience in all areas relating to home.  Since she is working full-time, she wanted to start doing something that she could grow on the side and ultimately transition into when the site became profitable.  Brooke`s subscriber list grows daily. She`s laying the foundation for a future at-home business.

Though you can certainly work for someone else in a home based business, you might find more rewards trying to figure out your own everyday expertise and using the technologies we have available to us to create a business where you can truly do something you love.
