A few years ago I needed to provide some information to a client of mine in Holland but no longer had a valid email address for them. I knew where they lived but no one sends letters any more. Using Google maps, I could see across the road from them was an automotive repair shop, which I could contact via email. Cheekily, I emailed them, asked them to print out the email and place it in the client’s letter box. Job done!

This experience did get me to thinking though. I needed something done somewhere, but didn’t know anyone there that could help. While I struck it lucky with a bit of cunning, this wasn’t always going be the case for me or other people. There needed to be a place I could go to and list my location specific needs. While there are places on the internet to list ‘virtual’ jobs that can be done wherever, there’s nothing along the lines of ‘I need this done there’

Long story short, MapofNeeds.com now exists.

The service was opened to the public a few weeks back. There’s an active worldwide Press Release available to media outlets now and we’re looking forward to some results there. We’re also working through additional campaigns and adding to this list as we discover great ideas – hence joining StartupNation.

Bit of a chicken and egg thing, but I’ll post a request in the Critique forum for some site feedback too. In the meantime, if anyone has any feedback from what I’ve introduced today, I’m all ears.

Thanks for the opportunity to introduce our startup and thanks for reading.

Best regards
Brendan Lester

What a great story! Love how one thing really led to another:

There was a clear problem (you couldn't contact one of my countrymen - yes I'm Dutch!) and through an already ingenious idea of contacting them the way you did, came up with a long term solution.

I can really see this going places once it get's out a bit. I'd be happy to feature an article - the story brought a smile to my face...great detective work!

All the best and keep at it!

Hello Floris

Many thanks for your feedback and article offer - I really appreciate that.

I've received some other feedback over the last couple of days and I'm frantically altering the workflow of the quote/acceptance process at the moment. I’ll get this out of the way and give you a bell back very soon.

Thanks again

Brendan
