First, find a company with a solid product.  Make sure it’s a product that people actually need and not just another product thrown on to make a compensation plan legal.

Second, find a company with a compensation plan that will actually benefit you.  This is important.  Don’t join a company that puts most of the compensation on levels you will never reach.

Lastly, find a company that offers good training and support.  You need great training to start working from home.  Don’t settle for joining an opportunity that doesn’t provide you with this training.

Isn`t there an option for: First, create a product that people want to buy?

What concerns me about these kinds of articles is that there`s an assumption that forming a home business is the same as getting a job. It may "appear" as if the person working from home is (somehow) starting a business, but that`s not true.

Going out and selling someone else`s product is really just taking a new job as a sales person, regardless of whether you`re based at home or in an office.

I agree, my wife has a Tupperware Business as a consultant - no different. She has the product reputation and support but only recieves 25% of retail. And, we just found out 1099 sent out if 5,000 in sales is made which is only 1,250 profit? doesn`t make much sense.
